A Note on the Use of Genre Tags

My genre tags are my own, though there is some overlap with the commonly accepted definitions. The labels I use for the genres are from my media player (it supports multiple genre tags). This post is to help clarify some of the potentially obscure tags I use.

  • MARTIAL: Martial Industrial and Martial Ambient
  • MILITANT: Neofolk, Neoclassical, or Dark Ambient with a martial flair (e.g. Leger des Heils)
  • APOCALYPTIC: Generally refers to music similar to early Current 93 (say up to Crooked Crosses for a Nodding God).
  • CULT: I started using this because many compilations had EBM, Neofolk, Power Electronics, and Experimental on the same release. It also refers to that unique sound of 80-90s Cassette Culture.
  • MELANCHOLIA: Softer. Think of Tony Wakeford's work under his own name and Current 93's "Soft Black Stars".

More will be added as they are used on this blog.
